spell check covers part of email
When I use a spell check the box covers part of the outgoing email and I can't see the word in question

Well click on the box heading and with your mouse drag it to a place you can read under it. Or like I do use spell check as you type, have a wiggly line under misspelled words and right click the word to get the suggested changes list.
