FF makes some funny choices in the dropdown URL select menu that slows me down almost every time It selects the second best match rather than the best... An example will help

If I want to open Google maps, I type map... and the autofill shows maps.google.com and the top item is also "visit maps.google.com". This is what I want.

HOWEVER, instead of "visit maps.google.com" being highlighted, the second item in the list is highlighted, which is a specific address I searched for several years ago. If I just type m-a-p <return> it takes me to this specific address. What I have to do is type m-a-p and then mouse or arrow to the preferred 'visit...' item in the list.

This is peculiar... you would think that it would select the most generic item rather than the most specific? I've tried several of the switches in the 'browser.urlbar.suggest' category and none seem to change this behavior. Is there a preference to change it?

This is not an area of expertise for me but you could try disabling your extension enter-selects 13 . To help later posters it could help if you explain how and why use this uncommon extension. Googling enter-selects 13 shows lots of references to Google Maps.

Thanks, Alan, spot on. While the problem is/was for all web searches, not just maps, it is fixed by disabling it. I don't recall why I installed it; the first part of the description reads --Press enter in the AwesomeBar to select the first result (without pressing down)

I'm speculating that I had some kind of menu issue and I thought this could help, but given the newest FF it causes the problem rather than corrects one. Happy without it.

Thanks again

I'm very happy to have helped. I'm frankly a bit surprised that I did so well.
