I am using FF 46.0 on Ubuntu (15.10, latest updates). I have used FF for many years; always update(release) when available.

I have 28 extensions installed. Since the last change I made before encountering this problem was to update several of the extensions, I tried Troubleshooting the problem (missing MenuBar) by disabling several extensions at once, rebooting, then trying disabling more extensions and rebooting browser again. Each time I checked the normal approaches (Customize and Show/Hide Toolbars.) The MenuBar is simply not listed. I also tried restarting the computer and restarting the browser in Safe mode. No help. Also tried clicking the Refresh Browser button on one of the help pages...nada.

Something has gone haywire: short of re-installing the browser or having to give up or remove the current profile, what can i do to fix this?

Your special Ubuntu version may not be using the Firefox menu bar, but provides its own menu bar. You can try to disable the Ubuntu extensions.

Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.

You can find the full version of the current Firefox release (46.0.1) in all languages and all operating systems here:

Thanksk for your reply. I am not sure if this version of FF uses the native menubar or a special one developed for this distribution of FF -- indeed loaded from Ubuntu repositories. It's weird about Ubuntu -- they are pushing the upgrade to v. 16.04, and just like when Windows has a new version, after a while various parts start breaking, mysteriously. Ubuntu changes version, one minor, one major, two time each year. It's a lot to keep up with if studying the distro, its differences, external software held up as proprietary, and such are not your major goals in using the computer. I'll see if I can track this down, thanks for the pointer....
