I just restarted Firefox after a crash and now the search engine is set to Yahoo and I cannot find any way to revert it to Google. Have I been hijacked? Is Mozilla doing this to me?

Many thanks for replying. I am pretty sure I tried all of that. After many weeks of crashes, massive memory hogging, endless futzing, having my settings changed by updates, this proved to be the last straw and I have migrated to Chrome.

We had a good run, FF. All the best.
