Thunderbird is set on my office computer to automatically forward all incoming mail to my home Thunderbird account. However, I cannot open attachments in those emails, even pdf files. I always get an error, like MSWord documents are in Japaneese character set, or Adobe files were not translated correctly.

When I forward emails manually from my office computer to my home computer, the attachments work just fine. Also, attachments sent from my home computer to my office computer work just fine. The problem only exists with automatically forwarded emails.

It makes no sense to download messages from your email provider's server to a local computer and then forward them out to another computer. Cut out the middleman, computer in this case, and forward the email at your email providers server. Most providers have this option available at their web mail portal.
