I suppose the best place to start is when/where I think this problem started. Approx three to four weeks ago my thunderbird program stopped downloading emails from my server (Spectrum/RR). I say Approx because the problem sort of sneaked up on me without me realizing it was there.

I was using W7 and my hard drive was pretty much full and I was constantly getting messages that my email could not be downloaded due to lack of space. I started deleting stored emails and emptying the trash, which sort of kept me up and running for the past couple weeks. All this time my Gmail account continued to work as it should, downloading every email that was sent to me, but the Spectrum/RR account was spotty at best.

So today I fired up a new W11 computer for the first time. One of the first programs I installed was Thunderbird. When I attempted to set up an account using Spectrum/RR the process failed. I typed in all of the correct information, Name, Email, and Password but the account will not finalize. Instead, I continue to get the same message that the Configuration, Username or Password is incorrect.

I have since successfully logged into my Spectrum/RR web mail, so I know the username and password I am using is correct. I have also talked with Spectrum Technical support, and they have verified that what I am using to log in is correct.

I hope I didn't ramble on to much and someone can help me !

This is kind of a long story, I will keep it as short as I can without compromising details. All of the suggestions on the support page have not helped in any resolution. So, yes, I have been reading it for days now.

Originally I was getting the error message "The certificate for mail.*.com is not valid for that server. Someone could be trying to impersonate the server and you should not..." I tried to make everything right on the settings for both smpt and the imap server settings. Nothing fixed it. Eventually I elected to uninstall TB and rename the folder under users/user/appdata/roaming/...etc. Basically start fresh. This is my boss's TB and he has had all sorts of issues since switching from POP3 to imap. It was working fine for a few days, then he got that original message about the possible impersonating server. Anyways, so I started fresh and got it all re-setup and it was working again. Inbound came in and sent went out no problem. Then TB updated to the more recent version 128 and then a new error occurred. First, " Your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder (Sent) due to network or file access errors. You can retry or save the message locally to Local Folders/Sent." So I chose not to save because it was just a test email. Then I doubled checked everything (nothing looked wrong) and I tried a new test email immediately after and another new error came up. "Sending of the message failed. Unable to communicate securely with peer: requested domain name does not match the server's certificate. The configuration related to must be corrected." I have tried getting and exception but it says that I don't need one. The certificate seems fine, though I only know enough about the certificates to be dangerous.

One more problem is I cannot get all of the old local folders onto TB as they were before. I know where the file is, however, TB will not import it, nor can I just move the folder into the mail/local folders folder in the profile. I was hoping that would fix it, but it indeed did not. This problem I know is unrelated to the connection issues, but it is an issue needing resolved that I have not found a solution for on the TB help site yet.

I have the latest version of firefox. I've cleared the cache and so on. Any idea on how to solve this?

128.0.1esr and 128.1.0esr (64-bit) do not seem to compact folders or delete trash consistently. I delete trash and then compact folders and sometimes a little while later the trash folder comes back with the messages I deleted previously. I now seem to never get any thing on the bottom of the screen that says it compacted and how much was saved as pervious version did. Am I the only one with this issue? Thanks

TB has been working well for a long time - but it seems since updating to v128.1.0esr I can no longer send emails from my Gmail accounts. I can send emails with my Yahoo email account however. So the issue is specific to Gmail. Incoming mail works - only sending emails is the issue (SMTP).

I've attached files of the outgoing warning messages and TB SMTP settings. FYI - I have three Gmail accounts and one Yahoo account. When I press the "Enter New Password" button in the "Login to account Gmail Account failed" dialog box, nothing happens - the screen quickly blinks.

What's interesting, is the failed email is saved in the Drafts folder with Gmail online. In other words, if I login to Gmail via a web browser, the message is saved in the Drafts folder and I can send it from the web browser Gmail account - but not from TB. Any help would be appreciated. I did make $$ Donation to TB awhile back.

Tried several times to add a new contact to my address book. When I click on the Save button it briefly enlarges but that's it. The new contact is not saved.

I tried closing and reopening TB and it still won't save the new contact.

Would appreciate help with this. Hoping it's not technically complicated, as I'm not an expert at this.

I've found nothing to fix that except to close Thunderbird and reopen it; sometimes needing to wait a few or several minutes before reopening it. That's always (finally) worked, but I guess I'm concerned that one time it won't work. What could be causing that?
