Downloading update has paralyzed my system

After downloading an update, the only thing that I can click that works is the Firefox button. Once in Firefox, when I click anything, the window appears for a millisecond and disappears. So I can go nowhere.

I am communicating using my iPhone, not the computer with the problem.
