I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a net book without optical drive. It comes with Firefox 3.6.24 which has limited support now (12/15/11). I would like to upgrade to Firefox 8. I have downloaded a .bz2 file from the Firefox download site. It extracts into a /home/firefox directory. Now what do I do?

You need to create a shortcut (launcher) on the desktop to start the firefox script in that directory.

I'm sorry but the reference makes no sense at all. For example, where is a bash and what is it? I really just want to use Firefox and not become some kind of master programmer. Firefox can do this sort of thing in Windows, why not in Ubuntu?
