Hi- When I download photos from Firefox and try to open them in preview or photoshop I get a message that file may be damaged or unrecognized. These are jpgs with the extension on them (I don't add it). When I download the same images in Safari they open no problem. I don't like Safari but I am really frustrated...

Also: I can drag the downloaded images into Firefox browser and they open but that doesn't help me.

thanks for any help I've added current plugins and extensions below

Some websites send WebP images with a .jpg file extension instead of real JPG images.
You can check this by opening the image in a Firefox tab and check the page title and possibly verify this via "Tools -> Page Info -> Media".
