why does my hotmail in thunderbird sometimes get my emails and other times it says "Sending of password for user *********@hotmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop-mail.outlook.com responded: Authentication failure: unknown user name or bad password"? Then it starts getting them again. It's totally random. Every once in a while it does it with my .live email too. Yet other .live and .hotmail addresses never have a problem? TIA

Hello, In my work email account (Zimbra instance), very regularly new emails keep reappearing as unread even after they are marked as read. If I restart Thunderbird, or if I go offline then online again the problem is solved; however, I would like a more definitive solution.

When the problem occurs, in the console I can see "The current operation on 'Inbox' did not succeed. The mail server for account X responded: mailbox selected READ-ONLY.". I tried solution suggest at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1276757, i.e., setting `mail.server.default.send_client_info` to `false`, but it did not work. Any other suggestion?

I am using Windows 10 Home on an HP laptop. Some months ago, I began getting this error message when trying to start Thunderbird: Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I've been slogging along using my Gmail reader since then but I need my address books from TB for my business. I really need to get this fixed.

I've read all the questions/replies on this and have uninstalled and reinstalled TB. My Appdata/Roaming/TB file only has 5 files in it: Crash Reports, Pending Pings and Profiles plus a couple of 1 KB config files. Don't know if this is right or not.

When I search the Profiles folder using .ini, I get this Notepad info:

[Install8216C80C92C4E828] Default=C:\Users\*\Documents\yvfr1fi4.default Locked=1

[Profile3] Name=thunderbird IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/kavosmqu.thunderbird

I have this yvfr file on a thumb drive and I tried uploading that into the roaming/TB file but I still get the same error message.

A new problem since July 1, 2024 Thunderbird keeps crashing on start-up when checking for new mail. HELP!! Crash ID: bp-e8be7291-7fe9-41c0-bd21-45d860240702

Hello! Thunderbird has stopped downloading messages from my Yahoo+ account. I can send messages from it OK. When I try to get it to download, it says: Checking Inbox for new messages... and waits at this point. Then I get: Host Contacted, sending login information... Then it waits for a long time. Eventually, it indicates "No messages to download", and then goes back to "checking inbox for new messages". If I click "Get Messages", a pop-up comes up with: "Error with account... and below: The account fischer94563@yahoo.com is being processed. Please wait until processing is complete to get messages." I've deleted the APP and downloaded and installed a new copy. No changes. Deleted and reentered my password with Yahoo. I'm at a loss to understand why this is happening, but it was working fine until recently. Any thoughts? Thanks. Kevin

IF I SEND AN EMAIL TO MYSELF, JUST ONE WORD AS A TEST, I HIT "SEND", AND IT IMMEDIATELY GOES AND ARRIVES, AS PER NORMAL. FINE. IF I SEND EXACTLY THE SAME ONE WORD EMAIL TEST TO, FOR EXAMPLE, MY WIFE, OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL RECIEPIENT, IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO EVEN SEND. I GET A PROGRESS BAR AS IF I WAS SENDING A LARGE RAW FILE OR SOMESUCH. LIKEWISE IF I SEND THE EMAIL TO ME AND CC IT TO ONE OTHER PERSON IT TAKES AGES TO SEND. ONLY AN EMAIL TO MYSSELF ALONE WORKS AT THE USUAL SPEED. MY BROADBAND SPEED IS FINE. I HAVE USED THUNDERBIRD FOR YEARS ON DIFFERENT LAPTOPS AND DIFFERENT COMPUTERS WITHOUT THIS ISSUE. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO, CAN YOU HELP?

as stated in the title, my HDD failed the other day and on recovery, my Thunderbird seems to have failed too.

I know (sort of) that it is all driven by the Profile.ini file.

But everytime I relaunch TB (even after what I think is an uninstall and a reinstall) I am getting : "Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

I would be happy enough to have a blank TB load up and I would reconfigure my various email accounts. but I cannot seem to do even that.

I know there is a trick to getting to a Thunderbird configurator....but I have forgotten what it is.

Where does TB "look" when it starts up? how would I control that?

When I am trying to access emails, a popup says to get certificate= imap.aussiebroadband.com.au:993 and confirm security exception. It will not allow emails to download

Error message:

"Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: <ec2-54-219-72-248.us-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com[54.219.72.248]>: Client host rejected: NO THANKS. Please check the message recipient "patrick.gilroy@harmonydesigninc.com" and try again"

Occurs regardless of recipient, whether replying to an incoming email, or composing a new email.

Is there a way to stop initial pop ups when opening FireFox? They slow productivity! I don't need to be reminded that I have new emails when I am already in Thunderbird.

I know this problem has been discussed extensively, but I can't fix it even after reading the previous posts.

I have an institutional email address that uses outlook.office365 server and mandatory two factor autentication. I had my Thunderbird setup with this, which suddenly stopped working one day on my office PC. I updated Thunderbird to the newest version, but the issue pertains. Currently I'm running Thunderbird 115.12.2. on a Windows 10 machine.

When I try to fetch my emails from this server, a popup window appears that asks for my institutional login credentials. When I enter them, a second window appears, asking for the two factor autentication. However, this window seems to be corrupt, as it does not contain any information, and and it's impossible to type in verification code, as there's no input area at all (see the first picture - note that I'm using a localized version of Thunderbird).

When I click on Privacy and cookies in the right bottom corner, then two lines appear (although without any labels), where I can type in my verification code (I guess that it is the second line, because it shows dots in place of the typed characters, as for passwords). A screenshot of this window can be seen in the second picture.

However, after typing the correct code and clicking on the grey button, the first window reappears, this time with my email address that keeps flashing forever and nothing happens. It does not even matter if I type in the right verification number or just anything, it produces the same behaviour. As a result, I can't log in to my mailbox, which is operational, because I can log in there through the web interface of outlook, and also from my laptop using Thunderbird 78.14.0. I also made sure that the server name and authentication methods are correct (outlook.office365.com, port 993, SSL/TLS, OAuth2).

Do you have any suggestion how to solve this issue?

Updated Thunderbird to 117.12.2 on the 25 June 2024. Since then I am not receiving emails on my computer. I have actually sent some emails but they don't save into the sent folder and I have had a "Add security exception" warning occured when sending.

So problem is not getting new emails since the latest update was loaded. Thanks Neil

All morning I had been receiving and sending emails without issue. Then at approx 12:41 PM EST Thunderbird stopped working. I can send and receive emails through AOL to AOL but they do not show up in Thunderbird. I did not have any other computer issues and did not change any settings. Verizon told me it was an AOL issue, but I was able to successfully send and receive messages with AOL. AOL tried to fix it but ultimately said it was a Thunderbird issue. In the last 6 or 7 weeks I have had issues with Thunderbird. What is going on? Very Very Frustrating!!!

I can send emails but when try to receive emails I get Login to server inbound.att.net with username topgun30@sbcglobal.net failed.

I installed the new version of Thunderbird, and it's strange. I can receive emails and send emails, but I'm getting an error message at the bottom right corner of my screen:

Could not connect to the mail server (and then it names my server name) The connection was refused

What do I gotta do to make this go away?

Ever since the last update of Thunderbird, my Junk and Trash folders are empty. When I mark a message as Junk or throw something in the Trash, the messages simply disappear. I have no way of checking the Junk mailbox for messages that might be there in error. I am also unsure whether my Trash messages are being deleted permanently, or whether they are in a hidden mailbox somewhere. Please help if you can!

I recieved emails from Microsoft to update Authentication to Oauth as support for basic authentication will soon cease. Whilst I have not been experiencing any issues, after following the instructions, also provided here:

I now have an unusable Thunderbird client.

This is because I am having to keep authenticating my outlook accounts (I have about ~100 email accounts). They pop up one after the other for each account.

I believe I went through all the troubleshooting steps but to no joy.

I did notice however, when the "Enter your credentials....." pop up box appears and I go through the motions of authenticating my account and TB against my Microsoft account, the following entry appears under the Settings > Saved Passwords > Saved Logins > "Provider" column for that account:

oauth://login.microsoftonline.com (https://outlook.office.com/IMAP.AccessAsUser.All https://outlook.office.com/POP.AccessAsUser.All https://outlook.office.com/SMTP.Send offline_access)

The credentials include a very long auto generated password starting similar to "M.C533_BAY.0.U.-........"

A couple of things to note now regarding the oauth entry:

1. It possibly does not always get created when re-authenticating 2. After quitting TB and then re-launching TB, it dissapears

So the solution would be to somehow ensure this entry is created and it sticks even after quitting TB, since for those accounts that include this I do not have get the "Enter your credentials....." pop up box.

Is this something TB can investigate?
