Firefox 19.0 there is a website where they have a gallery of pictures all the images from the gallery are hosted on Photobucket, they use to show up as normal but now for some reason they don't, I tried clearing the cookies and the cache, I made sure the download images automatically is check and every other bit of advise I could find on the web to no avail.

One thing I notice though is if you right click the missing image to get to view image information you will see Location: the address of the image is correct (copy and paste in the address bar bring up the image) Type: text/html (This is odd it should be img/jpeg) Size: 0 kb (of course the image was not downloaded) Dimension: 0 x 0 (again no image downloaded)

So if anybody has an idea how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Try these steps

  • clear your cookies and give a try.
  • Make sure that your Firewall/Antivirus not blocking the website/image.
  • Check whether you installed any Image block addons.

Thanks for the reply iamjayakumars but I've been thru that before, I've clear the cookies and the cache, firewall is off, I'm on a Mac no antivirus, and I never installed an image blocker addon.

Everything seems to be in order to work properly but it's not working for a reason that escaped me so far.

Are there any publicly available links you may give that others can test ?

Have you tried using an alternative browser, does that work ?

One of the numerous pages that doesn't work for me

http://www1.coe.neu.edu/~dan/R124/highs.html

I'm on a Mac and everything works fine with the Safari browser

The images on that page aren't links to real images, but at least currently link to an html page (page info > media shows type text/html).
You can see that if you right-click an image and open the image in a new tab by middle clicking the View Image entry in the right-click context menu.
Firefox seems to have a problem to display the image in this case.

Not that I disagree with you but if you look at the source code of that page

little excerpt here

<table style="text-align: left; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"
border="8"  cellspacing="5">
<td style="text-align:center;">
<img src="http://s117.photobucket.com/albums/p157/danster-nj/RR/R124/26.jpg"

They are actually image tags and as such should display the images I would think.

Well of course the coding didn't show up but if you do a show source you'll see by yourself. That being said why is it that Firefox sees it at a text/html page and more importantly I do I fix that issue?

Problem solved, I downloaded Google Chrome and everything works the way it should, thank you Firefox it has been a fun ride but it's time to move on.

Good luck with using Chrome.

I will edit the title from

  • Firefox not displaying images hosted on Photobucket

to

  • Firefox not displaying
    some images hosted on linked from Photobucket

I daresay the problem is trying to get the correct link from photobucket rather than anything else. Also I note the page you linked to gives quite a few validation errors.

This link is to photobucket, an image of the initial edit of this post:

And this is one of the images you couldnot see in Firefox

It seems to work with links to this domain:

I think it's something Photobucket has done, but Firefox is the only browser having this problem.

(I started out logged into my account in photobucket, but these pictures are not in my photobucket account..)

For example, here are 2 addresses to the same gif file:

Address 1: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g215/KrisRoberts/Smilies/th_bungee.gif

Trying to view using the address bar, I get this error:

>>> begin error

ERROR The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the requested URL the following error was encountered:

   Read Error

The system returned:

   (104) Connection reset by peer

>>> end error

Now, same file, using a different path... (I don't know how or why photobucket does this):

Address 2: http://s57.photobucket.com/albums/g215/KrisRoberts/Smilies/th_bungee.gif

Trying to view this using the address bar, I get this error:

>>> begin error

Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand. Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.

Cookie

/n

>>> end error

OK, then I went into the cookies and deleted all the photobucket cookies . (By the way, it took me about 10 minutes clicking around the Options then using Google to figure out where to do this; good job hiding it.)

After deleting the cookies:

Address 1: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g215/KrisRoberts/Smilies/th_bungee.gif - I can view using the address bar; I can also view on the forum

http://s57.photobucket.com/albums/g215/KrisRoberts/Smilies/th_bungee.gif - I can view using the address bar but I can NOT view using the forum.

This is happening to me on multiple forums, using multiple forum hosting software. So I know it's not the forum. And many users are complaining about this, so it's not just me; note the new posts on this thread the past couple days. My experience is It's unique to the Firefox browser and the photobucket site combination.

1) my FF19 shows your photobucket PB pics you listed. PB is changing its software, 2012 + 2013, so their links may change.
2) You never stated that you actually checked the links to PB in the old and new PB.
3) I plan to leave PB for its new painful GUI.
4) I read somewhere FF19 can upload multiple pics. This seems untrue, unless the receiving host support this (I did it today n PB). PB does support multiple uploads, Wordpress does not.

"2) You never stated that you actually checked the links to PB in the old and new PB" The problem is how Firefox displays photos in Photobucket. Chrome doesn't have this problem. IE doesn't have this problem. I can't control how PB is accessed by Firefox.

I have the same problem. I also find it troublesome. but........I think it is the problem of photobucket. It is no point for firefox to adjust itself for a image hosting company.

So many users (included some paid users) is complaining photobucket: http://support.photobucket.com/entries/21624120-Answers-to-FAQ-s

Besides, it is ridiculous that photobucket does not take itself thoroughly with firefox before it applies it dramatic change. Unless it intends to do so....

But as a suggestion for those who switch to chrome, please know that: Google Chrome Adds 'Do Not Track' Privacy Tools finally, but the DEFAULT setting is OFF! I also bet you will find it hard to turn Chrome auto update off. So, in my opinion, firefox is better than chrome!

"I think it is the problem of photobucket. It is no point for firefox to adjust itself for a image hosting company."

I don't disagree with that comment but why is it that only firefox has a problem with PB pictures?

Yes firefox is better than chrome, do yourself a favor a open a webpage I do a "save page as" with firefox and the same page with chrome and look at all the crap that chrome add to the file.

I'm just very disappointed that firefox cannot get the pictures from PB.

Maybe some specific examples would help comparing Chrome / IE / Firefox including a couple of example links.

Are we talking about photobucket site itself, or are we now talking about other webpages that have links to photobucket?

more options

John99, the problem is for websites (like forums) which link to photobucket pictures. I put several examples in my post above 2/16/13 9:15 AM which shows links to pictures that I can't see on the forum OR if I try to go directly to the URL of the picture. These symptoms are only seen on Firefox (or I should say are not seen on Chrome or IE; these are the only other browsers I've checked.)

I know Photobucket has changed something, but because of this issue I can't use FIrefox when using these forums.

Marymitch you're right on the money and that blows because I like firefox (I tried Chrome and I don't like it) you do a save page as and Chrome add 14 javascript files and modify the html page to include tracking and advertising, not good.

Photobucket site won't open at all in Firefox.

I'm also having similar problems to others. Images not showing up on message boards. My images aren't showing but also the smiles of the board that are hosted on Photobucket.

Today I went to Photobucket.com to check my links and the site doesn't even open in FF 19.0.2. Everything works in IE9 though. (Windows Vista)

I get this message:

Bad Request

Don't know why, but I decided to disable Norton toolbar and restart Firefox.

Photobucket site works. Images on message boards work too but smilies hosted on Photobucket still not working.

Is Norton toolbar not compatible with Firefox 19?
