why cant i copy bookmarks to new computer in newly installed firefox

i have installed firefox on my new windows 7 computer but transfer didnt work so manual installed firefox on computer and copied all bookmarks on usb stick and loaded into computer cant get firefox to copy the bookmarks

Many thanks Cor-el this will no doubt help in future I have saved all your instructions and will definitely use them if I ever have a problem in future -by the way if you want a real good laugh at my expense then here's what I did I clicked on every book mark in turn from the list in my old computer and I systematically copied each url into a word document then having done this with all 143 bookmarks I proceeded to paste them one at a time into my new Firefox browser on my new computer and saved each one -actually didn’t take that long as I could load about 5 at a time by the way using Firefox 3.6.2 don’t like 4 for some reason I cant explain . Once again thanks!
