So I copy the link of the add on to the clip board, I paste and go... A mozilla website and it gives a "connection not secure"

I am trying to troubleshoot installing add on problems on my computer, I have tried many of the prescribed things and I had it working for a little while, after messing with Firefox for days... I never had problems like this before the most recent couple of updates for Firefox. So I can only assume it has to do with something that randomly occurs in the program. This time is a little different than the last time, and I have not made changes to my Firefox, so I do not understand... I am a firm believer in if its not broken don't fix it. So I copied the direct link to the Firefox add on, pasted into the navigation bar, it was a Mozilla website. "https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/" and I get a "Connection not secure" fault. Soooo I can only assume that if I am attempting to install an add on using the add on manager, in the back ground it cant install it because its preventing its own access to its own website...Really???

Chosen solution

Do you get the error with this link, or only your original link?

https://addons.mozilla.org/

Or is the problem only after you click the install button? Behind the scenes, Firefox redirects installation URLs to a different server. For example:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/939847/switch_to_previous_active_tab-1.2-an+fx-windows.xpi

REDIRECTS TO

https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/user-media/addons/961473/switch_to_previous_active_tab-1.2-an+fx-windows.xpi

If for some reason your Firefox cannot form a secure connection with that second server, you will get an installation failure.

There is security software like Avast/AVG, Kaspersky, BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connections and send their own certificate.

SAFE MODE

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected
