No prompt for password change after "Enter Credentials" dialog box

Hi, I have recently changed my password for my Gmail account which I access though Tbird using imap. I have removed all previously saved passwords. When I click "Get messages" to initiate the new sign in, I get the "Enter Credentials" Dialog for my gmail account but once I click the "Next" button nothing happens and I eventually get a server timeout response. I am running Windows Firewall, and when I turn this off I still have no joy.
