How do I set Firefox to remember log-in details but not Passwords
I have always had a situation where Firefox would remember log-in details for a particular website. i e Username and password. If chosen FF will; a] Remember the full log-in with password, or, b] only the username and I will complete the password when logging in. After the latest update I cannot find a setting that will allow that. It is either all or nothing. I think this sucks from both a security point of view as well as the so called "user friendly" characteristics of Firefox. Is there anybody that can perhaps assist in resolving this issue???

Hi, I don't use the Password Manager since I prefer to enter passwords myself, so you will probably need to deselect 'Remember logins for sites' in Privacy: Password Manager - Remember, delete and edit logins and passwords in Firefox.
Then see: Control whether Firefox automatically fills in forms, and make sure that Text Fields are being saved - which should remember your login, but not your password.

What you are saying is exactly what I want. My problem, however, is that I do not find a "Password Manager" anywhere in the Firefox Menu's. Articles, yes, but nowhere where I can actually set those settings. Unless I am really stupid, but please help. Thank you
Please see Options > Security > Logins in this article under the heading 'Viewing and deleting passwords' - Password Manager - Remember, delete and edit logins and passwords in Firefox.
"Passwords" was changed to "Logins" in Firefox 44.0, when new (and changed) features were added for the Passwords / Logins Manager.
Firefox has never stored Login Usernames alone as Login data, the related Password would be saved, too, in the Password / Logins Manager. When Firefox does/did save the Login Username alone, that data would be saved as "form data". Options > Privacy -> History --> "Save search and form history".
I can't say for sure that Firefox 44.0 plus versions still save Login Usernames (alone) as form data, as previously. So I can't say if what you want works as it did before Firefox 44.0.
Thank you for the supporting answers. However, my problem is not solved. I can see and understand what "edmeister" is saying and agree with that. The point is "scribe" Firefox remembers both usernames and passwords for different sites. This, in my opinion is a HUGE security flaw and cannot be accepted. The older versions would save only the username and the password area remained blank -- to be filled in by oneself. Is that not what security is all about.??? I have tried all suggestions given to me, but without success. I have a second computer that had an older version of FF installed and that works without any problems --- for now. Did updates only without uninstalling anything. The problem is with new computer. Can this not be escalated to somewhere where it will be attended to.??
Maybe see if you can use the Saved Password Editor to specify a fake (non existent) password field and specify a fake password.

No. A username alone was never stored in the old "Password Manager". But often it would be saved as "form data".
Thank you for your assistance. All I really wanted to do is to secure my privacy and and be safe on the financial websites that I visit regularly. That seems to be a "GINORMOUS task with Firefox and chances are that one will still be hacked after that. I throw in the towel and would rather revert back to Explorer - maybe a bit slower but at least SAFE!!!
