I enabled web console for firefox and gave me a warning message saying hackers can access my information etc. i didnt pay any attention to this warning and enabled it , now i am getting pop ups every 4 hours or so. i know for a fact its because i enabled the web console ... ive never had a pop up ever on this mac in 3 years until today. is there any way to lock or disable web console or restrict others from using it

I am not sure it will be enough, but try this:

  1. Type about:config in the address bar and enter
  2. Accept the warning
  3. Type devtools.browserconsole in the search box
  4. Check that any line is not bold (you should have 19 lines).
If one line is bold, double-click on it to inverse the value
  5. Close the about:config tab

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

As far as I know, the built-in consoles (web console in the tab, browser console in a separate window) do not give that warning when you just use them normally because in fact websites can't see what you do in those consoles.

Is there a new add-on called Web Console that you installed, or does one of your extensions have such a feature?
