How do I get messages in a Trash folder when I click on Delete?

I have an SMTP account with a Gmail address. When I click on Delete for an unwanted email, a line is drawn through it in the Inbox. How do I get it into a Trash folder? The only Trash folder I see is one under Local Folders.

Gmail imap account deleting. There are different methods:

Messages will remain in the gmail trash folder for around 30 days, after which they will no longer be user-recoverable.

If you cannot see the [Gmail]/Trash folder then perhaps you need to subscribe to see it.
