Web link on desktop Windows 8.1 won't send as attachment in Thunderbird

System running Windows 8.1. When dragging web links from the desktop, thunderbird shows them as attachments fine. When I attempt to send the e-mail, Thunderbird says it cannot include the links and refuses to send the message.
