Ever since upgrading to THUNDERBIRD 52., on this WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM PC, either DELETING or MOVING a received e-mail can take a minimum of 45 seconds or more to complete. In the upper corner of the screen, there is a report, (Not Responding). Never received this message or this non-action with the previous version (45.xx)

What is your anti-virus software?

I have WINDOWS DEFENDER since it is part of the WINDOWS suite. I also have CCLEANER, SPYBOT & MALAWAREBYTES, which I use at my own discretion. However, this problem has arisen since the upgrade to vers. 52 was done. I never experienced this problem in the past with vers. 45. These malware scanning programs have been installed since I bought this PC years ago.

Try to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled. - Win7 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17419/windows-7-advanced-startup-options-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7

Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode. - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode

Does the problem go away?

I tried to start WINDOWS in safe mode, and I opened THUNDERBIRD in safe mode. It opened normally & I checked some new e-mails. I had no problems. Then I shut the PC off completely, restarted it sometime later in normal mode. Again I went into my e-mails, and I read some, sent some, replied to a couple & deleted some & moved some to various folders. When there is embedded image files, it seems to take longer to either MOVE or DELETE than when they are just simple text e-mails. Now, I understand that the more content there is, the longer it's going to take to process, but the point is that sometimes (NOT all the time!), either DELETING or MOVING e-mails with additional content, either embedded images or embedded video files, takes considerably longer, so much so that one sees the blue (or black) revolving circle somewhere on the screen, and in parentheses at the top of the screen, there is the phrase "Not responding". I understand that this may be a very difficult anomaly to track down since it does not happen every day, but it continues to happen on a frequent basis, and has ONLY occurred since the upgrade to THUNDERBIRD 52.xxx.

there are several other issues with THUNDERBIRD that I desperately wish I could have someone physically standing over my shoulder to demonstrate since they are too difficult to describe accurately in text, BUT this is NOT the time or place to discuss these other matters.

THANK YOU!

Windows safe mode disables anti-virus software. So your problem is most likely caused by anti-virus software.

Now, I understand that the more content there is, the longer it's going to take to process

The more content there is, the longer it will take anti-virus software to scan the file. During that time access for Thunderbird is blocked.

Some general recommendations: Create an exception in your anti-virus software for the Thunderbird profile folder, so that the anti-virus real-time scanner will not scan it. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird

Don't let your anti-virus software scan incoming and outgoing messages.

Don't let your anti-virus software scan attachments.

Don't let your anti-virus software intercept your secure connection to the server.

Remove any add-ons your anti-virus software may have installed in Thunderbird.

Keep it working. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keep_it_working_-_Thunderbird
