Is Thunderbird incompatible with Office 365?

Our University recently migrated to Office365. According to our IT help desk Office365 doesn't "talk" with Thunderbird. All installation has been performed, but I get this "Login to server imap-mail.outlook.com failed" when I try to log in. Incoming and outgoing server settings are supposedly correct per our IT page. So, it seems there is some sort of block or language problem either at the Office365 exchange server or the Thunderbird code. Are there any reasonable solutions to this issue?

Hi GregAld,

There was another question about this: http://it.ucmerced.edu/get-help/guide.../thunderbird-windows

You may have to edit the advanced settings for example like what cornell does: http://www.it.cornell.edu/services/th.../config-exchange.cfm

I hope this helps, I do not know how the 365 server is configured, this will depend on the administrator.
