I have a Mac os 10.5.8 laptop and it will not download, boss has a desktop with same 10.5.8 and has Firefox ????

As of Firefox 17.0 and newer one needs both Intel (which you have) and at minimum OSX 10.6. You may be able to update to OSX 10.6 or newer.
