I have an issue with MF Start Page defaulting to Google - how can I change this?

Hello, I have just signed up to Mozilla Firefox because it was 'independent'. I have an issue with MF Start Page defaulting to Google - how can I change this which for me undermines the independence of this site. I have tried to change this but every time I do a general search using the top left search bar it again defaults to Google which I do not want - in fact I converted my Web browser to Mozilla so I could get away from Google. How can i remove all traces of Google and avoid it popping up and defaulting as the search engine. I have tried all the settings and have set other search engines as my default browser but without any avail?

Please see this forum post. Will guide you through the steps of changing the default search engine of the browser. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/756322

Another solution is to install the Omnibar addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/omnibar/ This will collapse the Firefox Awesome Bar (left search bar) and the Search bar (the right one) into a single bar. Then you can just simply change the search engine by simply clicking on the Google icon in the URL bar, and then select whatever search engine you want.
