Why are my autofill keyboard shortcut keys "Ctrl+Enter" (to fill www.*.com in browser bar) and "shift+enter"(to fill www.*.net in browser bar) not working?

the keyboard shortcuts used to work in older Mozilla firefox versions ie. versions before 6.0 but they don't seem to work anymore.what's more..i do not see an 'autofill' option in 'options' (this might simply be that i can't find this option or that it has been moved under another tab). where are the settings that i can modify and get these shortcuts back in use?

You would need to create a copy of the Firefox desktop shortcut and add the -safe-mode switch to the command line to restore that feature, but there are other ways in Firefox 4+ versions.

In Firefox 4 and later you can use one of these to start in Safe mode:

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

There are extensions like AVG Safe Search that can cause the Enter key not to work with the location bar.

um..my own case is a little different...it doesn't relate to 'server not found' error..in my case...enter key or ctrl key just doesn't work..in fact i even have to click on 'go' button on entering the full address rather than just pressing 'enter'..hope it clarifies it a little..my guess is..it's more to do with a setting than a bug unless it's a step taken by Mozilla to prevent a bug or a security issue like keyloggers or pointers that sometimes plague such shortcut keys. is it something to do with registry settings? or 'options' in firefox 7.0.1 ??

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

went to the default theme on add-ons but now that i see it..i realize i dont HAVE a "safe mode" anymore that i used to have on earlier editions...just an option under programs with Mozilla firefox>Mozilla firefox (no safe mode option that used to be there with 2nd sub-heading)..ie. NOW it sounds starting like a bug...any ideas?? what should i do?
