With my iMac (PPC G5/OS 10.4.11) I currently run with Firefox 3.6.13. I have tried several time to accomplish the automatic update of Ff 3.6.17.

However every time the monitor of the update downloading stays busy (trying) to connect with the update server. Anyhow, even after 1 hour the status of connecting/downloading with/throough the updateserver stays the same, without any change

If you get an error message that you do not have sufficient permissions or if you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Firefox 4 doesn't run on a PowerPC Mac.
Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

For an unofficial Firefox 4 compatible version that runs on Mac OS X 10.4.11 or Mac OS X 10.5.8 (PowerPC) you can look at:

Hello cor-el,

When I start the updating, there is no error message. The updating proces appears to be busy, but apparantly the updating is not in progress.

Can you help me out with (instructions) how to: "Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install" ?

Do you have (or where can I find) reviews on the unofficial Firefox 4 compatible version on Mac OS X 10.4.11 ?

Kind regards,

Eeltje
