Status of GPSD Geolocation in FF4

What is the status of Geolocation in FF4 using GPSD?

In FF3 there was an element (buggy, but fixable) called GPSDGeolocationProvider.js in the xulrunner directory. That element would connect to gpsd and provide the geolocation information to the browser.

Now I have upgraded to FF4 and cannot make the application work, and no sign of the corresponding code.

Bugzilla #584015 gives me the distinct impression that GPSD geolocation has been dropped in FF4. That is simply unacceptable if true.

I would like to know what the status is in FF4.

Thanks.

Bill Lee

You probably need to wait for Firefox 5 to get this fixed.

I see that you posted in the bug about this problem:

Bug 584015 - gpsd has changed protocol, GPSDGeolocationProvider is broken

You can try if it works with Aurora:

Thanks for the response. Doesn't make me happy, but at least I have a reason to stay with FF3.
