Only Firefox version 3.0.? will work on my PC, anything higher simply wont load websites, Including 4.0. Fix?

Why is it that only Firefox version 3.0.? will work on my PC. All other versions up to 4.0 simply wont load any web pages. I have a HP Pavilion Pentium 4 2.93ghz processor. IE always works, but it always seems slower than Firefox. Please help. Currently back to 3.0.19

Your Firewall was probably blocking the newer Firefox versions from reaching the internet.
