Space bar navigation

more options

For the past 10 years or so I have been going through my email using the spacebar.

When I pressed the space bar whilst reading a message Thunderbird advanced a page at a time through the message. When it came to the end of the message pressing the space bar took me to the next unread message. If the next message is in a different folder, a popup message would ask for confirmation, and again, the spacebar was my weapon.

But now - pressing space at the end of a message sometimes takes me to the next message but not always, I sometimes have to resort to the n-key which involves moving my finger, a major irritation.

(Thunderbird 78.11.10 32-bit) (Windows 10 Home Single Language, 20H2)

Any help appreciated.

Yes - same problem with Thunderbird in safe mode.

Note - I don't have any Extensions installed.
