Workaround for "Theme Font & Size Changer for Thunderbird is incompatible with Thunderbird 78.7.1"

more options

Please help me. I'm not great with this kind of stuff, but I really depend on Thunderbird! I've been hunting for a solution for hours, and have seen a couple of solutions from Toad-Hall, but I'm confused because those have varied, and I have another question besides.

1) Thunderbird disabled the add-on, but I have seen no difference in my fonts, which I'm happy with, but which is strange... Did this release actually fix the font sizes?

I have not yet removed the Theme Font & Size Changer add-on, because I don't want to be faced with the small text until I'm sure of a solution. In the past 2 days, Thunderbird crashed 3 times, having never crashed before, which brought me to learn about the add-on issue. Is that why it's been crashing?

2) So do I actually need to remove or work around the add-on despite its apparent preferred size? Or else in simple terms please explain how to work around the add-on, and also in what order I should remove the disabled add-on. I really appreciate the help.

Re: Crash Do you use 'Unified' folder view? Did the crash occur after deleting an email?

As a test, use this setting: Suggest using setting View > Folders > All

re :TF&SC is disabled You need to Uninstall TF&SC

  • Menu app icon > Addons
  • select 'Extensions'

On far right for the TF&SC addon, you will see a small 3 dot icon.

  • click on that 3 dot icon to see drop down menu and click on 'Remove'
  • Once uninstalled, restart Thunderbird.

re: How to increase generic Font Size as another option to suggestion by sfhowes Then if required you can increase the overall font size from within Thunderbird by using the following method.

  • Menu app icon > Options > General
  • Scroll down to the very bottom
  • click on 'Config Editor' button to open 'about:config'

It will say be careful :)

  • In search type: pixels
  • Look for this line: layout.css.devPixelsPerPx
  • Double left click on that line to open the 'Enter string Value' box so you can edit the Value.

The default value will be a negative number: -1.0

  • Enter a new positive number eg: 1.25 or 1.5 or 2.0 or 2.2
  • click on OK

the effect is immediate, so you can modify that number until it looks ok for you.

I've included an image as a guide.

You may as well remove or disable TF&SC, since it doesn't work in 78. Use the Zoom option in BrowseInTab to achieve the same effect.

Post your crash IDs in Help/Troubleshooting. An ID is a string beginning with bp-...

I found the IDs, but don't know where you want me to post it. Just the string is enough for you? bp-1309f6e3-dbb0-4b58-9cfa-fa3870210207 6 hours ago bp-5078105b-4200-4b3b-8c85-e74ba0210205 2 days ago bp-01b574ca-0066-4849-a71f-936080210205 2 days ago

TF&SC is disabled, but what's keeping my font size good? It hasn't changed.

TF&SC is already disabled, but then what is keeping my font the size it has been with the add-on?

Sorry, but I'm not seeing my responses when I've posted them. Not sure if you're seeing them.

Why is my font size still the same as it has been with the add-on?

Thank you so, so much!

Yes, I use Unified view and I may have deleted something. I don't like the Folders/All view. Will it harm anything if I continue with Unified, with occasional crashes?

My font size hasn't changed since the 78 update, even with TF&SC disabled. Any idea why? Once I remove it, will the font go small? If so, would it be a problem if I just continue as I am, with TF&SC disabled but not removed?

more options

If you follow the instructions in your other topic, that will reset the Unified view, so try it again and see if it works without crashing.

If you're happy with the current setup, keep it as is, and if it changes in a future update, the steps given above are available to adjust the fonts.

HELP! All my emails have vanished!

I was doing something in my browser and TB crashed there was a message, but I can't remember how to find crash report string.

I reopened TB and clicked on Home because it looked empty, and I don't know how to change the view to get them back.
