Cannot open a web link from an email, dialog box does not respomd.

Click on web link in an email.... presented with a dialog box asking if I want to open it with an app or the default browser..... clicking on either has no effect as does the OK button.... you can check the box re "always use this app" .... nothing has any effect.

On the toolbar > Options > Attachments

Delete any references to HTTP HTTPS FTP FTPS and try again.

Most of the links are not a web address.... just say visit ------ or click here or similar.

they are web hyperlinks. If you hover your mouse over the words, the actual link will be displayed in the status bar as the bottom.

Hovering over that entry should display https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Hyperlinks-in-Messages-Not-Working in the status bar as that is the link the word executes.
