Someone else probably knows a way to download Firefox through ftp, but an alternative solution would be to download Firefox using a different computer and then use an usb memory stick to get the installer onto the laptop.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I've already tried this to no avail. The browser opens but doesn't connect nor it gives me any errors it just stays blank.

Make sure to install the "full" or "offline" installer. If the file has "stub" in the name, it connects back to Mozilla for additional files.

Full installers: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Sorry, misread your reply. By default, when Firefox opens it display an internal home page. Is yours attempting to load a page from the web?

Could you do this three-minute experiment:

Create a new Firefox profile

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):

firefox.exe -P

Don't delete anything here!

Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like July2016, and skip the option to relocate the profile folder. After creating the profile, select it and start Firefox in that profile.

Does Firefox load any pages?

When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

You could use the commandline ftp or a ftp client such as the popular open source FileZilla ftp client (no relation to Mozilla) to do ftp.

However Mozilla no longer does ftp:// protocol on ftp.mozilla.org since Aug 5th 2015

You could download the full offline setup for Windows (32-bit and 64-bit options) from www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ on another PC and then transfer file over with say a usb flash drive.

You can use a utility like wget to retrieve the Firefox setup file.

There should be a Windows version available as well.
