I run Thunderbird on two computers: my desktop and my laptop. Recently I had to replace the hard drive on my laptop, and subsequently reinstalled TBird. Since then, I am not able to log in to my email account as my password is "invalid." This is the same password that I use to access the same account on my desktop, which continues to download mail successfully with no issues. I have removed and reinstalled TBird several times, checked with my ISP to be sure my settings are correct (and in fact TBird verified that they are right). The problem is that my password is declared invalid when TBird tries to check mail. Any help out there? Thanks in advance. I am operating with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) , and TBird version 38.7.1.

I'd consider copying the working profile to the laptop.

Thanks for the thought, but that doesn't work. You can't actually copy and paste; you have to actually type in the correct entries, including the password. Thunderbird accepts the entire account setup when I type it in manually (and correctly), but balks at getting or sending mail because according to it, my password is invalid. I've had my ISP check my account to be sure I am using the right password (I am), and after working with me for a reasonable length of time decided my problem must be with TB and not with them. :-(

That is incorrect. you can copy a profile using windows explorer. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder_-_Thunderbird and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb#w_where-is-my-profile-stored

However the most common cause of incorrect password errors is actually anti virus programs and their email scanners and firewall component which block access to the internet from Thunderbird.
