Does Firefox Sync rely on local data from a system

I recently had to reformat my computer and in doing so also lost all locally stored password information from firefox. I assumed that the information would have been stored in my sync account but I've logged in and have no available information that I did previously.

Does firefox sync require at least two systems to be able to maintain the stored information?

I had initially assumed it was like Chrome in that it stored it and could be accessed anywhere you logged in regardless of whether or not you had more than one system connected but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Can anyone confirm my suspicions or tell me what I may be missing?

Hi, Sync is for Syncing 2 or more devices. I would think that Chrome is also. Sometimes you can get away with it for awhile but it will eventually lose your data as it is not designed as a backup service.

When you formatted you lost the token wherever it stored it and when connected it cleared it as you had no data nor the token.

So yes that is correct.

I kind of figured that was going to be the case, thank you for confirming for me.
