Suddenly this week after years of troublefree use with Windows 7, cannot open my firefox, get the 'profile missing' error message, did all the recommended steps, uninstalled & reinstalled Firefox, created new profile and deleted the original, but still get the same error message & firefox will not open.

hi, do you happen to have a folder called "old firefox data" on your desktop?

more options

No, I don't, just the Firefox shortcut.

ok, then please press the windows-key + r & open: %appdata% in the windows explorer pane that opens you should see a folder labelled "Mozilla", which you can right-click and rename to something like "Mozilla.old". afterwards it should be possible to launch firefox again...

Tks for the info, but it doesn't solve this particular problem, Found the folder 'Mozilla' and tried to rename it, but cannot cos error message says 'the action cannot be complete because file or folder is open in another programme'. I've checked all possibilities including Task Manager & restarting the pc but cannot find any open files!
