When I hit the "go to bookmarks" button on the menu bar, a page comes up blank. I also cannot get a new page to save to any of the bookmark categories. I hate IE and don't want to go back so please help!

Can you describe the blank page a bit more. Is it a web page? if so, what is the address in the address bar?

If you are viewing the Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b), can you find any bookmarks if you check the Bookmarks Menu and Bookmarks Toolbar?

I'm not sure what you mean by bookmark categories. Folders??

Since I'm having trouble visualizing the problem, could you post a screen shot? You can use an image editor such as Windows Paint to blur out anything personal. This article might help: How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

Is this an extension that gave you that button? Does the normal bookmark menu work properly?

Yes, the normal menu works ok, shows all my bookmarks and takes me to any of them, but when I hit the "go to bookmarks" dialog that is second from the top, it just comes up with a blank window. Thanks for answering - Todd St. Louis

When I hit the "go to bookmarks" option under Bookmarks, it goes to this site http://us.bookmarks.yahoo.com/pages/all?orderby=ctime&b=1&sort=DESC

If I hit the "save this page" option I get a small dialog box with the address at the top "http//:us.bookmarks.yahoo.com - mozilla firefox

Do you normally save bookmarks on Yahoo?

If NOT, and if you don't actually need a Yahoo toolbar then those buttons are just a distraction and you can disable or maybe remove the toolbar here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

If you DO use Yahoo's bookmarking feature:

(A) Your Yahoo toolbar might be out of date or broken. You could try installing the latest version from here: http://us.toolbar.yahoo.com/

(B) To fix the blank bookmarks page, try this general guidance:

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

So much grateful and I will try checking this out asap.

I encountered a problem in Firefox after installing the Piclens extension. My Bookmarks toolbar was not showing my bookmarks anymore, just a blank toolbar. It was also not possible to add new bookmarks to it. A quick check of my bookmarks revealed that the Bookmarks Toolbar Folder was still there so it had to be a different problem. I tried disabling and enabling the toolbar again which did not have a effect either. I knew that it was important that the so called Bookmark Toolbars icon was added to that toolbar. To check this you have to right-click the top toolbar and select customize from the list. If there is no icon visible in the Bookmarks Toolbar you have to move it back in. The icon is called Bookmarks in the icons list there. Just drag and drop it into the Bookmarks Toolbar and the bookmarks should be visible again after finishing the customization. My bookmarks were there again which was exactly what I wanted to happen. This is amar suri, basically belongs to New delhi. I have done MCA from Indian IGNOU.
