What kind of files are you saving?

Are that web pages with a .html file extension or files with an .eml file extension?

The latter need to be opened with an email program.

If it are HTML files then check the (default) encoding.

Thanks for the suggestion. I save as .html. I opened web developer but have no character encoding option, options that appear are web console, inspect, scratchpad, page source and error console.
