i have 2 tabs open & then search for a website 67 tabs open cant shut it down

first tab opens at sign in. second tab opens because i search for something. the multiple tabs open as a result of the search procedure which may or may not give me the anticipated answer to my search but mostly not

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
