Android version: 4.4.4 KTU84P Firefox version: 42.0

Hi all. Thanks for taking a look at my question.

My Chinese phone has an English-language Android operating system. The Chinese phone company keeps trying to push Chinese Firefox to my device. Recently, I had to uninstall Firefox and reinstall from Google Play Store. Unfortunately, my bookmarks disappeared. However, I keep a backup copy of my Firefox bookmarks as bookmarks.html.

I am trying to figure out how to import my bookmarks from my bookmarks.html backup into my Firefox for Android. I have done extensive searches on the interweb, including this site, and have not found anything helpful.

My first thought was to find a bookmarks.html file on the Android and replace it with my backup copy. I searched my phone and found nothing that began with "bookmark."

Also, I couldn't find any Firefox function for importing bookmarks.

Any ideas? I dutifully keep backups of my bookmarks, but now I can't import the backup. Oh, the irony!

Thanks so much for any suggestions.

P.S. I'm an ex-desktop support guy, so can handle most technical jargon/vocabulary. Thanks again.

Hi

Thank you for your question.

If you have the bookmarks.html file, you can use that to restore the bookmarks on your Android device, but you will need to "bounce" the information though a desktop copy of Firefox.

  1. Install a copy of desktop Firefox onto a computer.
  2. In that copy of Firefox, go to the Bookmarks icon, and select Show All Bookmarks.
  3. A Library window will open. Under Import and Backup, choose Import Bookmarks from HTML and import the bookmarks.html file you have saved.

If you have not already, set up Firefox Sync on your computer and also on your Android device. This is not a backup tool, but is a process by which a copy of bookmarks can be transferred from one device to another. You can read all about this here.

I hope this helps, but if not, please come back here and we can look into a different solution for you.
