Why does Firefox remember my Centurylink webmail username & password?

I never have my browsers save Usernames and Passwords. Nor do I choose "remain logged in" (or "remember me," whatever) on any site.

Once I login to mail.centurylink.net, every FUTURE time I use webmail, Centurylink does NOT require my Username or Password. THIS IS NOT GOOD WHEN I USE SOMEONE ELSE'S COMPUTER!

Centurylink says I have to delete Cookies, Cache and active logins. That solves the problem - until I log in again!!!!!

Interesting that IE doesn't have the issue with Centurylink webmail! Interesting that Firefox doesn't have the issue with my eBay account!

If this is indeed a Firefox issue, I'd like to know how to fix it. Otherwise I'll have to use IE and compalin (again) to Centurylink.

Thanks, Alan

Three possibilities.

  • 1 Open the Password Manager and clear any entry for the site
  • 2 It's the Auto Form Fill that does this
  • 3 You have not signed out from the site

=====================

1) I don't find any "Password Manager" in Firefox. All I find is "Security." Under Security, "Remember passwords for sites" is NOT checked. I don't find any "Saved Passwords" when I click that box. I don't save passwords! I already stated that in my original query.

2) I can't find "Auto Form Fill." Under Privacy, in the drop-down menu I have "Use custom settings for history." "Remember search and form history" is NOT checked!

3) I DID sign out from the site! I stated that in my original query!

Hi, it seems that the site is setting cookies which are remembering your login details.

Please see Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track, to set the site as an exception.

And Block websites from storing cookies and site data in Firefox.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

It is usually best to use a Private Browsing mode window if you are using a computer that is not your own and have to log in to a website.

Sorry, but I have no idea what you want me to do regarding the links you sent. Obviously I am too ignorant.

TODAY!!! Other happenings! The URL: mail.centurylink.net caused my Username/Password to be saved - just as in the past. I cleared history as necessary.

NOW, mail.centurylink.net does not save my Username/Password.

AND, the following URL that I copied from Centurylink's "home" page: https://secure.centurylink.net/login.php?bounceto=http%3A%2F%2Fcenturylink.net%2Fzmail%2F%3Fautologin%3Dtrue doesn't have the issue!

Today, neither URL is saving my username/password. That's on MY box!

THEN, I used my wife's box. IE went right to my webmail without asking for my Username/Password! That's NOT the same result when I used IE on MY box!

I now think this is all a Centurylink issue!

I'm going to use this URL for the moment: https://secure.centurylink.net/login.php?bounceto=http%3A%2F%2Fcenturylink.net%2Fzmail%2F%3Fautologin%3Dtrue

I switched to Centurylink a few months ago. Now I am questioning why.....

You need to remove the cookies from a website to make the website forget about you.

You can inspect and manage the cookies for the domain in the currently selected tab:

  • Click the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
  • Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
  • Click "View Cookies" to view the cookies for the domain in the currently selected tab

You can use the search bar in the Cookie Manager to "Remove Cookies" from specific sites:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If that indeed was the case, why does Firefox not remember my eBay Username and Password???

OR ANY OTHER SITES I VISIT THAT REQUIRE USERNAME/PASSWORD??

I am not having a problem with any Usernames or Passwords on ANY other site EXCEPT for Centurylink!

Do you comprehend?

Just to be sure that there is no confusion:

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?

I still have no idea what this "Password Manager" is.
