I would like to remove ALL search functionality from firefox. If I want to search the internet for something I do not have a bookmark for, I will goto the URL bar and type the address of a search engine of my choice and go there. I have NEVER ONCE used the search bar. (This is not a malware related issue, it functions perfectly except there appears to be no way to remove it from the GUI.) I have unchecked all search engines from it in hopes it would just remove itself, but still to no avail. Is there an option hidden somewhere I am missing? See attached image to see the search bar I am referring to. (Yellow highlighted area) If there is no way to remove this, that is fine, I just like to keep my bars all neat and tidy and it is disconcerting to my web experience to have useless bars on my GUI.

Sincerely, Basil1981

Chosen solution

You can move the search bar to the Customize palette, either in customize mode or by right-clicking the search engine icon (Remove From Toolbar).

If you want to go further then you can set browser.search.selectedEngine on about:config to an empty string and possibly remove the built-in search engines in the "\browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder.

I don't know why the image was not uploaded the first time, but lets try again!

cor-el has your answer, but I noticed you have two Flash plugins. This sometimes happens if the Adobe installer is not able to clean out an old version.

Since there is an update available, that installer might clean it up for you. If not -- if you still see two Shockwave Flash plugins on the Add-ons page, plugins section -- we can suggest steps for resolving that. (It sometimes causes video issues, and older Flash plugins create a security vulnerability.)

To update, you can get the full installer from the following page, it's the one for plugin-based browsers: https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

Thank you both very much, never noticed flash player didn't uninstall old version while updating, thank you for that as well. Search is now gone and I am happy, and running well! Thanks all!
