My boss had a problem with his email this morning, He opened his email (Thunderbird) as always but it came up to the screen to set up Thunderbird as if he had no account. I closed it and reopened from the .exe file instead of the shortcut he uses and got the same result. I then proceeded to re-set up the account but in my haste I set it up under IMAP rules instead of POP. Now the program opens and shows 2 of the same email accounts in the left pane, one with POP and the other with IMAP. I try to simply go to manage identity's and remove one of them but it tell me that there is another account with the same name and to select a different name. It will not let me edit, remove, change, delete... Nothing I can do with the accounts. It will not even let me log in to either account to check or retrieve old emails.

Chosen solution

Manage Identities isn't quite the right place.

Try this:

Right-click an account, select Settings. Make sure the unwanted account is selected, go to the bottom of the pane, click on Account Actions then Remove Account.
