How to prevent checking for new mail when I select the Inbox folder?

Hey all,

I want to check for new messages manually only. So in Server Settings I uncheck the following: - Check for new messages at startup - Check for new messages every 10 minutes - Allow immediate server notifications when new messages arrive.

However, whenever I click my Inbox folder Thunderbird starts checking for new mails and I'm curious if it can be turned off somehow, since I often want to work on my existing messages in the inbox without receiving new ones. It would be perfect to be able to check for new messages by clicking "Get Messages" button only. I have an IMAP account.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Even if 'Allow immediate server notifications...' is unchecked, some IMAP servers may still 'push' notifications. I'm not aware of a way to completely disable new mail, but in the meantime you could click the icon at the left end of the Status Bar to go offline, or File/Offline/Work Offline.

I have seen a suggestion to change the 'Max. number of server connections to cache' to 0 (zero), in Server Settings/Advanced for the account in Account Settings, but I don't know if there are negative side effects.

Thanks for your ideas. Offline could help even if I can't send messages while offline. Thank you.
