Have tried all the suggestions but FF will not save new usernames and passwords. Any more ideas?

The password manager will not ask about saving usernames or passwords for sites I have previously saved but now want to change. I removed the old user name and password but it will no longer ask.

However, it did work when I created an account on the FF support site. Is there a way to find out if a website has now blocked saving passwords? I suspect that might be the problem but can not figure out how to determine the status.

I tried restarting FF in safe mode and it did not solve the issue. Are there any additional reasons or things to check to explain why the password manager will not ask about some sites?

hello djcanter, sites can define that the browser shouldn't save passwords in their source-code, see Usernames and passwords are not saved.

you could use an addon like the following to try to circumvent such restrictions: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/remember-passwords

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Thanks for the replies. I have never used Private Browsing and I did try the Safe Mode to troubleshoot. The suggestion to try the add on seems to have solved the issue, for he moment. I appreciate the assistance,

Thanks to both of you for replying to my post.
