On a crashed Linux machine (OpenSuse 13.1) would like to know where I can find my bookmarks to recover them. Will not boot but my be able to get in with a live CD.

Could you not just use a search to find them? You could search for places.sqlite. The bookmark backups are in a subdirectory called bookmarkbackups in that directory.
