Firefox bookmarks stopped working

I had it where id go into the show your bookmarks page and there be a thing that said click to bookmark page. Well about a week ago the bookmark page moved out of the folder and now shows up as a star beside the show your bookmarks tab and when i try to bookmark stuff it only shows up in the recently bookmarked folder id like to get it back the way it was any help would be appreciated.
