Firefox hangs when I open a file or download a file.
Everytime I download a file, firefox will hang for around 2-3 seconds and as soon as the download window pops up, it runs again.
I also have the exact same issue when I open a file into the browser. With that I mean like when you have to browse for a file to upload to imageshack for example. When i click the file and open it, firefox will hang for a couple of seconds and then resume again.
I've had this issue with the latest version of firefox BEFORE i installed firefox 4 beta 9. So that means I have the EXACT same issue with firefox 4 beta 9 as well as the latest version of firefox 3... What could be causing this?

Do you have a lot of downloads showing in the Downloads window?
If so, clear that window using the Clear List button at the bottom of that window.
Firefox attempts to locate every downloaded file that would appear in that window every time it is opened. If the list is long, or files have been deleted or moved, that will increase the time it takes to open that window and display the contents.
No. It's empty 90% of the time. At most I have 2 downloads in there. Still doesn't explain why it would hang during the opening of a file.
I encountered similar problem earlier today in Firefox 4. The difference is that Firefox hangs altogether, no download window popping up or anything.
I have tried cleaning the download list, but the problem still occurs.
I solved the problem by "cleaning" Firefox using CCleaner. I reckon there's something to do with the url database.
I had this same problem... I've un-installed(Control Panel\Programs and Features) all JAVA's(sort by name) and loaded JAVA 6.0. Firefox is back to normal again... (remember to change the settings in JAVA to not check for updates...) Hope this helps!
