more options

I have 8.0 version and I am running OS Win 7 home prem. When you try to use the search engine on the home page of the default setting, it does not respond. I have use the search engine in the toolbar fine but not the main one in the middle of the page. What can I do to make this work as it usually does? By the way, I did recently upgrade to 8.0 and this have been a problem from the start. Thank you for your help Wade Roberts

Try to delete the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

You may also need to reset the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone pref to the default.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
  • Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
  • Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
  • Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

Not aware of any problems like you've described.

Would you take a look at Problematic extensions, and see what you have that might be reported there.

Just because something is there doesn't mean it is the problem, but is a good place to check when you do have a problem.

Next try disabling "Adblock Plus" at the toolbar icon or options if you have the extension. If it works then, you would need to update your filter subscriptions, and retest. This is mentioned before safe mode testing, because you do not have to take Firefox down to check/fix ADP filters, and is probably less frustrating to work with.

If that is not the problem then check to see if running in Safe Mode eliminates the problem, when you run in Safe Mode do not be tempted into checking any of those boxes as that would not be safe. If the problem disappears in Safe mode you will have to find the extension responsible, perhaps one of those in Problematic extensions. You would want to test by disabling half then either reenabling half of the last group, or disabling half of those still active whichever applies. Please see the following for better descriptions.
