In FF 3.6, the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl-E and Ctrl-K would bring the cursor to Firefox's search box.

In FF 4 RC1, the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-E no longer does anything. Ctrl-K still operates as it did in FF 3.6.

That shortcut was removed, you can restore it with the Change Search Shortcut extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/change-search-shortcut

Thanks; looks like in FF 4 "Ctrl-Shift-E" opens the Panorama view, and "Ctrl-E" no longer does anything.

Ctrl+E is a standard keyboard combination for searching in windows. Why would it be removed from FF 4? Most windows users are familiar with this shortcut and it is an incovenience to require an add-in to get functionality that was present in previous versions of firefox.

These keyboard shortcuts are very important for productivity sake and it is very annoying to find them missing in FF 4. Like Ctrl-E for search .. F6 to focus on the url bar

This shortcut is important because I have be using it since the dawn of Firefox, and also because Ctrl+E can be used with just your left hand.

I don't see why it was necessary to remove a long used shortcut just to have it do nothing. You shouldn't remove features from previous versions if you want your users to upgrade. I was about to downgrade for this sole feature until I found this page and successfully fixed the problem with the Change Search Shortcut above.

Please, return F6. Ctrl+L useless! And Ctrl+E need too! Please!

F6 works to set focus to the location bar if you disable Tab on Top. Otherwise you need to press the Tab key to set the focus to the location bar because the tab bar gets focus by pressing F6.

Thank you to TonyE for the solution!

However, I'm in agreement with everyone here. This shortcut should not have been removed. It's a common enough shortcut to remain accessible with the left hand only.

Just an FYI: alt-D is the other standard keyboard shortcut to give focus to the address bar, and this still works.

The {Ctrl + E} was for Panorama for short period of time around the beta 9 or 10 stage of 4.0beta development. So many users complained about that change and that it might be confusing for users who used it for the Search Bar that the Panorama shortcut was changed to {Ctrl + Shft + E} and the {Ctrl + E} shortcut was never returned to the Search Bar as with previous versions of Firefox. As TonyE posted, this extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/change-search-shortcut - fixes what the developers didn't fix.

It's sad that Mozilla does not listen to Firefox users. I'm using change-search-shortcut add-on too, but I think such minor, but vital add-on shouldn't be necessary if Mozilla team had been working with regard to users. I have to say that it really drives me crazy if I encounter Firefox without change-search-shortcut. Probably the best time to switch to some other browser (until now I thought this problem will be solved in the future). Btw don't rely on Google and Chrome too. They do the same major anti-user changes (e.g. moving bookmarking star for no feasible reason).
