Greetings to everyone who has had this problem,

I too had the same problem...

You will have to install the alpha release for TOR button, that is compatible for Firefox4, however, trying to install it results in an error from firefox "Firefox didn't install this addon as it wasn't what firefox expected" However, if you go here: http://www.torproject.org/dist/torbutton/ or if the link is not showing, or were not allowed to link there - goto the TOR website, under "Our Projects", click "TORButton", then look down the list until you find a link for "Past Releases:Local" - Click "local" Scroll the list to the latest (torbutton-1.3.1-alpha.xpi when I wrote this - 11 Jan11), and click on the xpi and it should allow you to install. A new button appears next to the address bar (the TOR Garlic). Hope this solves everyone's problem - it did for me ;)

Hey guys, if you want your mozilla 4.0 to be proxy enabled, you'll have to go with series of steps!! 1. Install TOR (anonymity application) or get it from https://www.torproject.org/ 2. Now download firefox 3.6, and make it anonymized with tor, by adding an addon named torbutton. 3. After the addon is installed, mozilla would ask for a restart so restart it(may not ask for a restart if firefox portable version is started alongwith connection of tor). 4. A red colour icon saying "Tor disabled" would appear at bottom right corner of the browser, click on it, it would turn green and read "Tor enabled"( all to be done in mozilla 3.6 itself). 5. Now download and install mozilla 4.0 from their official website. 6. Start Mozilla 4.o and start surfing with all your webs that you were deprived with.

i had the same problem with firefox version 4.0.1. but i didnt want to downgrade my browser version so i had to find another solution which wasnt too hard.

the only thing you have to do to get it working is to manually configure your proxy settings in firefox to local host and port 8118, as you can read on the tor support pages. so just configure 127.0.0.1 and port 8118 as your proxy and the packets are sent through the tor network. you can check this by looking up your ip from http://www.ip-adress.com/ for example. if you have some experience in network protocols you can also record the packets sent and recieved by your networking interface by scanning it with wireshark, the probably best tool for packet filtering, available for free on http://wireshark.org. this will give you the proof that its working.

have fun. browse anonymous ;)
