am being told that i need to empty firefox cache. i went to the preferences and selected advance and clicked on the empty now pane .has this all i have to do or is there more. i am useing a apple imac with 10.6.5 o/s

No, clicking the "Clear Now" button is enough to clear the cache. You get no confirmation. You can verify the current cache usage via the location bar on the about:cache page.
