My status bar says "transferring data from www.google-analytics.com" and just sits. How do I fix this?

it was just happening when I tried to do a search on the site, but now it is doing it as soon as I try to load the page. I have tried Hitman Pro, ComboFix, and HijackThis to search for viruses and malware, but I still have the problem. I have a tab open right now that has been loading for more than 5 minutes

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files) See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

Can't site examples for you (can't find in my bookmarks, maybe I failed to bookmark it/them), but some reading indicates that this can be caused by the method/location in their page code that webmasters are using/placing google-analytics to count traffic hitting their site.

Some users have found relief by installing Ghostery ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9609/ ).

  • Set your options: (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions, click Ghostery, click Options; I use Select: All on Blocking) and
  • keep the "Bug Lists" updated by clicking on the "ghost" icon in the Status Bar; go back to options and select All again after each update.
